| Beschreibung (dt.): | Ziel dieses Projekts ist die Entwicklung eines von Forschern geleiteten Open-Source-Tools zur Bewertung von Ernährungsgewohnheiten, welches mit maschinellen Lernfähigkeiten die automatische Klassifizierung und Harmonisierung von Ernährungsdaten in ganz Europa unterstützt und Anforderungen der epidemiologischen Forschung, der klinischen Praxis und der Überwachung der Ernährungsgewohnheiten unter Berücksichtigung von Aspekten der Ernährung und der Lebensmittelsicherheit gerecht wird. Im Rahmen dieses Projekts werden zudem Faktoren untersucht, die die Validität von Ernährungs-Biomarkern beeinflussen können (Genetik, Lebensstil, Phänotyp, andere Ernährungsfaktoren), wobei u.a. bestehende Kohortenstudien herangezogen werden, um die Auswirkungen von Biomarker-Korrekturen auf die Schätzung der Lebensmittel-/Nährstoffaufnahme abzuschätzen. Das resultierende Instrument zur Bewertung der Nahrungsaufnahme und die gewonnenen Erkenntnisse über Biomarker werden Vergleiche zwischen verschiedenen Populationen und die Identifizierung spezifischer Risikogruppen/Individuen ermöglichen, auf die Interventionen abzielen. |
| Beschreibung (engl.): | The aim of this project is to develop a researcher-led, open-source dietary assessment tool that uses machine learning capabilities to support the automatic classification and harmonization of dietary data across Europe, meeting requirements for epidemiological research, clinical practice and dietary surveillance, taking into account nutrition and food safety aspects. This project will also investigate factors that may influence the validity of dietary biomarkers (genetics, lifestyle, phenotype, other dietary factors), including using existing cohort studies to assess the impact of biomarker corrections on food/nutrient intake estimates. The resulting dietary intake assessment tool and biomarker knowledge gained will allow comparisons across populations and identification of specific at-risk groups/individuals to target for interventions. The major aims are executed in 5 separate work packages: WP1: 'Project management' with participation of all project partners. WP2: 'Development of a researcher-led open-source nutrition assessment tool'. The open-source tool for dietary surveys will be based on 24h recall protocols on the one hand, but will also incolude questions to record episodically consumed food. Such food items will be identified at DIfE through analyses of the EPIC-Potsdam study. In addition, the tool should enable a global assessment of nutritional quality, for which corresponding nutritional indices will be identified at DlfE through systematic literature analyses. WP3: 'Screening of interactions between biomarkers of intake and actual consumption '. DlfE will systematically evaluate literature to prioritize biomarkers based on their applicability in surveys. Determinants of biomarker reliability will be identified through data analysis of existing studies, at DlfE using the EPIC-Potsdam study.
