| Beschreibung (dt.): | Das Innovationsnetzwerk 'Entwicklung eines MUltifaktoriellen STallkonzeptes zur tiergerechten Haltung von Zweinutzungshühnern und Bruderhähnen vom Küken bis zum Lebensmittel' (MUST2) hat die konzeptionelle Stallentwicklung für Zweinutzungshühner inklusive Bruderhähnen unter Berücksichtigung von Tierwohl und Verhalten, Tierhaltung und Umweltwirkung, insbesondere Emissionen, Management und Arbeitsbedarf, Zucht und Wirtschaft, Tiergesundheit und Biosicherheit, Verbraucherkommunikation sowie Ökonomie zum Ziel. Ausgangspunkt ist die zeitlich gekoppelte, konventionelle Aufzucht und Haltung von Hähnen und Hennen, unter Berücksichtigung alternativer Genetiken und mit Potential für Direktvermarktung, Biobranche und vor allem der (Stall-)Öffnung für die interessierte Gesellschaft. Diese Interessensbündelung und Zielsetzung fußt auf dem wachsenden Interesse an der gesamten Wertschöpfungskette und dem aktuellen Bestreben, das Töten männlicher Eintagsküken aus Legelinien zu vermeiden und alternative Produktionsformen zu finden. Das Konsortium zur Bildung des Innovationsnetzwerkes MUST2 setzt sich aus Akteuren zusammen, die das Know-how zur Entwicklung eines zukunftsfähigen, nachhaltigen, transparenten und tiergerechten Stalles mitbringen. Für die Aufgabenbewältigung wird das Modell des Corporate Think Tank als grundlegende Strategie gewählt. Bisherige Diskussionen zum Thema Zweinutzung befinden sich häufig in einer Sackgasse, was die potentielle Machbarkeit und die im Weg stehenden, scheinbar unlösbaren Zielkonflikte angeht, z.B. bezüglich Tierverhalten und Haltungssystem, sowie Außenklima und Emissionen. Das Format soll zur Strategie- und Innovationsentwicklung führen, notwendige Rahmenbedingungen klar definieren und Perspektiven aufzeigen, die eine balancierte Haltung von Zweinutzungshühnern und Bruderhähnen (Junghähnen) ermöglichen. |
| Beschreibung (engl.): | The innovation network 'Development of a Multifactorial Housing Concept for Animal-Adapted Housing of Dual-Purpose Chickens and Young Cocks from Chick to Food' (MUST2) aims at the conceptual housing development for dual-purpose chickens including young cocks, taking into account animal welfare and behaviour, animal husbandry and environmental impact, in particular emissions, management and labour requirements, breeding and industry, animal health and biosecurity, consumer communication as well as economics. The starting point is the time-coupled, conventional rearing and keeping of cockerels and hens, taking into account alternative genetics and with potential for direct marketing, the organic sector and, above all, the (barn) opening for the interested society. This bundling of interests and objectives is based on the growing interest in the entire value chain and the current endeavour to avoid the killing of male day-old chicks from laying lines and to find alternative forms of production. The consortium for the formation of the innovation network MUST2 is composed of actors who bring the know-how for the development of a sustainable, transparent and animal-adapted barn that is fit for the future. The model of the corporate think tank is chosen as the basic strategy for accomplishing the tasks. Previous discussions on the topic of dual purpose are often at an impasse in terms of potential feasibility and seemingly insoluble conflicts of objectives standing in the way, e.g. regarding animal behaviour and housing system, as well as outdoor climate and emissions. The format should lead to strategy and innovation development, clearly define necessary framework conditions and show perspectives that enable balanced husbandry of dual-purpose chickens and brother cocks (pullets). The priority work objective is the creation of a housing concept with a structural planning sketch that enables the animal-adapted keeping of dual-purpose chickens and brother cocks. Different work packages are dedicated to this goal WP 1 Animal welfare and behaviour (Dr. Inga Tiemann) WP 2 Housing practices and environmental impact (Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Büscher) WP 3 Breeding and industry (Dr. Michael Lüke) WP 4 Management and labour requirements (Prof. Dr. Robby Andersson) WP 5 Animal health and biosecurity (Prof. Dr. Silke Rautenschlein, PhD) WP 6 Consumer communication and economics (Prof. Dr. Mergenthaler) In the consensus-building process, innovation and integration are the guiding principles, so that the conflicting goals are addressed and, if possible, technically solved and can be implemented in real life. The model of the corporate think tank is chosen as the basic strategy for tackling the tasks. The interdisciplinary approach, but also the innovative solution or agreement of different targets should be at the centre. Previous discussions on the topic of dual purpose are often at an impasse in terms of potential feasibility and seemingly insoluble conflicts of objectives standing in the way, e.g. regarding animal behaviour and husbandry system, as well as outdoor climate and emissions. The format is intended to lead to strategy and innovation development, clearly define necessary (legal) framework conditions and identify perspectives that enable a balanced response to the multi-layered challenges. External support is being sought for the think-moderation; whether the tank can also take place in presence is still unclear (but strongly desired) due to the current situation. The design planning for a barn for dual-purpose chickens and pullets is the result of the project, which will serve to implement an experimental barn in the further course. |
